Black Youth Justice Program x Black Law Students Association Partnership

Level Justice is excited to announce a partnership between the Black Youth Justice Program and Black Law Student Association of Canada (BLSA Canada). From its inception in 2022, Level’s Black Youth Justice Program (BYJP) has operated with one goal in mind – to provide culturally relevant justice education and mentorship to Black youth, aged 11-18 years of age across the nation.

BLSA Canada is a national student-run organization, established in 1991, that is committed to supporting and enhancing academic and professional opportunities for Black law students. Their mandates are mentorship, community, experience, and support – all which are vital to their goal of advocating for Canada’s next generation of Black lawyers.

BLSA Canada operates in law schools nationwide and has launched various initiatives geared at promoting increased representation of Black law students and aiding in their success. BLSA Canada reflects the diversity of the African, Caribbean, and Black experience. This new partnership will include BLSA Canada’s expertise and feedback from current students and alumni to ensure that Level provides programming to reflect local context and the needs of Black youth. To further Level’s cause, BLSA Canada has committed to facilitate the involvement of their members, executives, and its local chapters as program facilitators and volunteers within BYJP and advise and support expansion of the BYJP across Canada. In addition to providing recruitment and facilitation support, BLSA Canada and Level will jointly participate in engagements, initiatives, and opportunities where possible.

With BLSA Canada’s support, Level’s BYJP will continue to work to create meaningful, regionally responsive programming and increase opportunities for youth to engage with the justice system in accessible and culturally relevant ways.
