A Day of Inspiration: Black Youth Justice Program Students at McCarthy Tétrault
On May 26, 2025, students from a grade 12 law class at West Humber Collegiate participated in an insightful visit to McCarthy Tétrault’s Toronto offices as part of Level’s Black Youth Justice Program (BYJP). This marks the second year that McCarthy Tétrault has opened its doors to students from BYJP, a justice education program designed for Black youth aged 11 to 18.
As a national law firm partner for both Level’s Black Youth Justice Program and Indigenous Youth Justice Program, McCarthy Tétrault continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to equity and access to justice. Through this ongoing partnership, the firm plays an essential role in helping youth develop a passion for the legal field and breaking down barriers to entry into the profession.
This year’s visit featured a dynamic information session led by members of the McCarthy Tétrault team, who generously shared their personal journeys and insights. Associate Solomon McKenzie spoke about his path to becoming a lawyer, while Hakim Kassam from the Professional Resources team, joined by Jehnelle Steer from HR, provided guidance on navigating the legal profession. Articling students Razan Mohamed and Josh Wallace offered a candid look into their experiences at McCarthy, giving students a real sense of life at a law firm. Their reflections highlighted the importance of diverse representation in law and left students inspired and encouraged. Fatima Ahmed from Level Justice attended the session, helping to facilitate the visit and support students throughout the day.
Level extends our sincere thanks to McCarthy Tétrault for hosting the BYJP students once again and for their continued leadership in advancing justice education for both Black and Indigenous youth across Canada.
We offer the Black Youth Justice Program at a range of price points. Should you be interested in bringing BYJP to your school, please contact Level.
